We are huge Philadelphia Eagles fans in our house. Even though our kids were born in Maryland, they have easily picked up the notion that we “bleed green” despite living in the Baltimore area. Football season can be a frustrating time for us, since we are not in the Philadelphia tv market, we may not get to see every Eagles game. Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night are safe when they play because they are nationally televised. Sunday games can be a crap shoot. Lately we have been lucking out, since they won the Super Bowl this year, and we are able to see more of our birds on TV. However, with every Eagles game comes some rituals that can’t be broken.
- The dog must be in his Eagles jersey.
- My son wears his Carson Wentz jersey
- My husband and son occupy specific seats on the couch
- I am generally kicked out since the momentum of the game switches for the worse when I’m in the room
- While I am kicked out of the room I make wings for half time snacking.
I’ll be honest. I really don’t eat wings very often. Even with my rule of eating 80-20, wings generally don’t make the cut. I may have 1 or 2, but I don’t indulge in them. I have had an air fryer for a few years now, and jumped on that train a good year before they became popular today. My initial reason for buying an air fryer was to get “restaurant quality” fries from frozen and basically use it to elevate frozen food without deep frying. Since it has become a more mainstreamed appliance, I have expanded my use of my air fryer with salmon, homemade egg rolls, and wings.
Wings are ridiculously easy in the air fryer. And since they air fried, you are definitely reducing some of the guilt on them. A package of wings, a few ingredients and a half hour is all you need for a super football snack. Sometimes, a half hour is all that is needed to grant me access back into the family room to watch the game too.
Start with 2 lbs of wing sections. These tend to cost a bit more than buying straight up wings, but I hate cutting bone-in chicken. It takes some time and makes me nervous. I figure the extra money spent for them precut saves me money and time at an urgent care facility getting stitches.
Preheat your air fryer for about 5 minutes. Once it’s heated, add the wing sections (which you already patted dry) to the basket. I generally do 2 lbs, but you can easily double the recipe and fill the basket more.
Set your air fryer to 380 degrees for 23 minutes. Shake the wings at the half way point.
While the wings are cooking, make your sauce. Combine your wing sauce, melted butter, brown sugar and worcheshire sauce in a bowl.
If you like your wings hotter, add more wing sauce, more mild, use more butter. If you are making more than 2 pounds of wings, make more sauce. It’s a very adaptable recipe!
After the 23 minutes, open the air fryer, give the wings a shake and cook again for about 3 minutes on 400 degrees.
Once done, put the wings in the bowl of sauce and toss to coat. Serve up to your hungry and superstitious fans. Fly Eagles Fly!
Air Fryer Wings
- 2 lbs chicken wings cut into drumettes and flats
- 2/3 cup of wing sauce
- 2 tlb. butter (melted)
- 1/2 tlb. worcheshire sauce
- 1 tsp. brown sugar
- pinch of salt
After heating your air fryer for 5 minutes, place the chicken wings in the basket and insert into the air fryer.
Cook for 23 minutes at 380°F (190°). Shake the wings after 13 minutes.
- While the wings cook, combine the ingredients to make the sauce.
When the time is up, increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 3 more minutes until the skin is browned and crisp.
Transfer to a bowl, add toss with wing sauce.
Serve them up with blue cheese or ranch dressing and some celery.
